APEDA Facilitates First Export of Organic Palmyra Jaggery Powder from Tamil Nadu to Bulgaria
India has exported its first consignment of 1.755 metric tonnes of organic Palmyra Jaggery Powder from Gobichettipalayam, Erode district, Tamil Nadu, to Varna, Bulgaria, on October 15, 2026.
The export was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The product is made from Palmyra flower nectar and can be used as a natural alternative to refined sugar.
Wellbeing Foods, Erode, produced and exported the consignment in collaboration with Chetty Exports Private Limited, Chennai. The shipment will travel by sea through Chennai Port to Sow Life Ltd, a Bulgarian importer and distributor.
The product meets India’s National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and European Union organic standards. The initiative covers 137 acres of organic cultivation, helping farmers access international markets.
Exporting the product is expected to provide 15–22% higher prices for farmers compared with the domestic market, while the manufacturer reportedly receives around 17% higher returns.
This first shipment is an important step towards promoting Tamil Nadu’s traditional Palmyra products internationally and expanding India’s organic exports.
