????? Coconut Export Prices Rise Sharply to ?70/kg?
Coconut export prices in India have increased sharply to ?55–70 per kg, compared with around ?25 per kg two years ago. The main reasons are lower production, poor rainfall, and a shortage of good-quality coconuts.
Tamil Nadu Leads Coconut Exports
Tamil Nadu accounts for around 31% of India’s coconut exports.
Major export markets include Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE and Singapore.
Export-quality coconuts must meet specific size and weight standards.
A container can carry nearly 18,000 coconuts.
Poor Rainfall Reduces Supply
Exporters mainly source coconuts from Kangeyam in Tiruppur and Peravurani in Thanjavur.
Coconut prices have increased steadily:
2 years ago: ?25/kg
Last year: ?40–48/kg
Now: Up to ?70/kg
Earlier, prices generally stayed around ?25–30/kg, but they have nearly tripled.
The key reason is inadequate rainfall, which has reduced coconut production and made it harder for exporters to source enough export-quality coconuts.
