India Looks Beyond US, Seeks New Trade Partners

India is actively looking for new trade partners as talks with the US remain uncertain. The move aims to support exporters and reduce the impact of high US tariffs.

Relations with the US worsened in August after President Donald Trump raised tariffs to 50%, threatening jobs and slowing India’s goal of becoming a major manufacturing and export hub.

As a result, India is quickly diversifying beyond its largest market. Last year, it signed or put into effect four trade agreements, including a major deal with the UK—the fastest pace in years.

India is now in talks with the European Union, the Eurasian Economic Union, Mexico, Chile, and the Mercosur bloc to sign new trade deals or expand existing ones.
