Bangladesh Resumes Onion Imports from India After 5-Month Gap
Bangladesh’s interim government has allowed onion imports from India through land ports to control rising prices.
After five and a half months, imports resumed with 150 tonnes arriving via Hili Land Port in Dinajpur and 660 tonnes in 23 trucks through Sonamasjid Land Port in Chapainawabganj.
The last import was on March 2, when just 29 tonnes entered. Imports had stopped as local onion prices dropped, but with prices rising again, importers sought and received government approval to restart.
