India's Soybean Imports Projected to Decline Amid Weak Demand

India's soybean imports are expected to decrease significantly in the 2024-25 oil year due to subdued demand. The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has revised its import forecast down to 1 lakh tonnes, a sharp decline from the 6.25 lakh tonnes imported in the previous year. This adjustment reflects a notable drop in imports during the October-March period, which stood at just 0.02 lakh tonnes compared to 5.06 lakh tonnes in the same period last year

SOPA attributes the reduction to the current import patterns and emphasizes that India permits only non-genetically modified (non-GM) soybean imports. The association had previously projected imports at 3 lakh tonnes but has now scaled back its estimate in response to the prevailing market conditions.?
