India and EU Accelerate Free Trade Agreement Negotiations Amid U.S. Tariff Concerns

India and the European Union (EU) are intensifying efforts to finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of this year. This development follows the U.S. administration's decision to impose reciprocal tariffs of 26% on India and 20% on the EU. 

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šef?ovi? have engaged in discussions to expedite the FTA negotiations. Their recent meeting in Mumbai focused on achieving a balanced and mutually beneficial agreement. 

The proposed FTA aims to enhance trade and investment between India and the EU. Key negotiation points include tariff reductions on automobiles and wines, data security status for India's IT sector, and improved market access for various goods and services. ?

Both parties are committed to resolving these issues and concluding the FTA by the end of the year, aiming to strengthen economic ties and mitigate the impact of recent U.S. tariff actions. ?
