India’s Agri & Processed Food Exports Rise 13% in FY25

India’s agricultural and processed food exports grew 13% year-on-year to $22.67 billion from April to February FY25, driven by a 21% surge in rice exports.

Key Highlights

Rice Exports Surge:

Exports of basmati and non-basmati rice rose 21% to $11 billion, up from $9.32 billion last year.

The government removed all export restrictions on rice in September 2024, boosting shipments.

Experts predict FY25 rice exports may exceed $12 billion, a 15% rise, due to strong global demand.

India’s Global Rice Dominance Restored:

India has been the top rice exporter for a decade.

Shipments are rising, especially to Africa and Southeast Asia.

Basmati rice exports are expected to hit 5 million tonnes, far exceeding Pakistan’s 1 million tonnes.

Despite payment issues with Iran, demand for basmati rice remains strong.

Growth in Other Agri Exports:

Buffalo meat, dairy, and poultry exports rose 12% to $4.61 billion.

Fresh fruits & vegetables exports grew 5% to $3.39 billion.

Cereal preparations increased 9% to $2.82 billion.

APEDA's Export Target for FY25:

$26.56 billion, with agri-exports contributing 51% of India’s total agricultural shipments.
