Mango Farmers in TN Struggle as Soft Drink Companies Cut Pulp Content

With the mango season approaching, pulp manufacturers in Krishnagiri are facing a major drop in demand.

???? Why? Soft drink brands have reduced mango pulp in their drinks—from 18% earlier to just 7%, replacing it with artificial flavors.

???? Impact

Pulp demand has fallen, leaving 80,000 tonnes of pulp unsold last year.

Soft drink sales declined due to prolonged rains, further reducing pulp purchases.

Mango pulp units are shutting down—only 25 remain, down from 35 a few years ago.

Production, once running three shifts a day for three months, has now shrunk to just 45 days per season.

Pulp manufacturers are now urging APEDA to push soft drink companies to maintain a reasonable pulp content for quality and fair trade. If demand continues to fall, the industry and farmers could face severe losses.
