Murata to Set Up Manufacturing Unit in Tamil Nadu
Japanese electronics giant Murata Manufacturing is setting up a factory in OneHub Chennai Industrial Park to produce multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), boosting Tamil Nadu’s electronics sector.
State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa highlighted that Murata joins other global firms like Corning and Jabil in choosing Tamil Nadu. Murata’s components are used in Apple, Samsung, Nvidia, and Sony products, even contributing to NASA's Mars helicopter project.
“This is a major step towards scaling our electronics exports to $100 billion,” Rajaa said. Murata, which currently produces 60% of its MLCCs in Japan, aims to start full-scale operations in FY26 and expand further in India.
Tamil Nadu has emerged as India’s top electronics exporter, contributing $9.56 billion in FY24, driven by Apple and its ecosystem. From April to September 2024, the state has already surpassed $6 billion in exports.
“To those who say India is only doing assembly—watch how the electronics supply chain is shifting. Tamil Nadu will drive India’s transformation into a global electronics manufacturing hub,” Rajaa added.
