Dry Fruits Import Duty Rationalization: NDFC Seeks Budgetary Relief

The Nuts and Dry Fruits Council of India (NDFC) has urged the government to reduce GST on dry fruits to 5%, introduce a production-linked incentive scheme, and simplify walnut import duties to ?150 per kg in its pre-budget recommendations.

India's dry fruits market, projected to reach $12 billion by 2029, relies heavily on imports, with over 90% of domestic walnuts produced in Kashmir. NDFC also called for subsidies to expand local production and reduce dependence on imports.

The council is planting 2 lakh walnut trees in Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand and collaborating with Chile on technology sharing. The MEWA India trade show (Feb 11-14, Mumbai) will host 300+ exhibitors from 50+ countries.
