?Sugar Industry Seeks Approval to Export Additional 10 LMT?
India’s sugar production has risen sharply due to a good monsoon, reaching 41.35 LMT so far in the 2025–26 season. With higher crushing and better recovery rates, total production is estimated at 350 LMT, of which 35 LMT will go toward ethanol. After meeting domestic demand, mills may face a surplus of about 75 LMT.
To reduce excess stock and financial pressure on mills, the sugar industry has urged the government to allow an additional 10 LMT of exports, beyond the 15 LMT already approved , to support domestic prices and improve market stability.
