India's Cotton Textile Exports Top $35.6 Billion in 3 Years
India exported over $35.6 billion worth of cotton textiles in the last three years, including cotton yarn, fabric, made-ups, and raw cotton, according to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh.
To boost cotton productivity and quality, the government launched a five-year ‘Mission for Cotton Productivity’, announced in the 2025–26 Budget.
The mission aims to strengthen the entire textile value chain under Vision 2030.
It will be led by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), with support from the Ministry of Textiles.
Focus areas include:
Developing climate-resilient, pest-resistant, and high-yielding cotton varieties
Promoting Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton through advanced breeding and biotech tools
A special project by ICAR-CICR Nagpur is already underway in eight major cotton-growing states to demonstrate best practices.
The project has a total budget of ?603.2 crore (?6,032.35 lakh).
