From Homemaker to 'Moringa Queen': Tamil Nadu Woman's Global Success in Moringa Products
P. Ponnarasi, a 38-year-old mother of four from Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, transformed her family's 10-acre moringa farm into a thriving business. Initially selling raw moringa produce, she faced low prices and intense competition. After attending training sessions at Tamil Nadu Agricultural College, she learned about value addition—turning raw moringa into products like oil, powder, and cosmetics.?
With determination, Ponnarasi developed over 36 moringa-based products, including soaps, shampoos, and soup powders. Her business now generates ?12 lakh annually and exports to countries like Malaysia, Singapore, the US, France, and Muscat. She has also received several awards, including the Best Entrepreneur Award from the Collector of Trichy.?
Beyond her business, Ponnarasi mentors other farmers and self-help groups, encouraging them to explore value-added agriculture. Her journey from a Class 10 dropout to a successful entrepreneur serves as an inspiration to many.
