Kumbakonam Betel Leaf: Cultivated in regions like Thiruvaiyaru, Papanasam, Thiruvidaimarudur, Kumbakonam, and Rajagiri, this betel leaf is known for its unique taste and pleasant aroma, attributed to the fertile Cauvery river basin. The GI tag is expected to boost its export potential.?
Thovalai Flower Garland: Originating from the Thovalai flower market in Kanyakumari, these garlands are renowned in southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala. They are crafted by weaving various white, red, and green flowers into designs resembling a woven mat.?
The GI tags were officially announced after a four-month review period following their publication in the Government Gazette on November 30, 2024.
