India May Raise Import Duties on Vegetable Oils Again

India is likely to increase import duties on vegetable oils for the second time in six months to support struggling oilseed farmers, according to government sources.

As the world’s largest importer of edible oils, this move could raise local prices for oil and oilseeds while reducing demand for imported palm, soybean, and sunflower oil.

In September 2024, India raised duties:

Crude oils (palm, soybean, sunflower) – from 5.5% to 27.5%

Refined oils – now at 35.75%

Further discussions on global grain trade will take place at the Black Sea Grain Conference on April 24 in Kyiv.
